Too Thin?

I have experienced this in my life many times. Have you ever known someone who has just spread themselves too thin that they seem to have no time for you? I was challenged with this once upon a time by one of my best friend’s wives. She said to me not to spread myself too thin that I become overrun and lose my weight. She was not talking about pounds, she was talking about something different. Something that is not easily defined. She was talking about staying strong. Like a rope is strong when it is tightly woven together, it makes the rope shorter and thicker. If you take the rope apart and cause it to stretch further and become thinner, the rope loses its strength.

Too thin; the thought alone seems like an oxymoron with the way culture throws being thin at us all the time, right? We have workout plans, diet pills, get thin in 1 week schemes and all sorts of great ways to make us thinner and healthier. Maybe, just maybe those two do not go hand in hand?

Jesus had 12 disciples. He did not aspire to have more, he did not want to have less. He stayed with 12. Maybe there is something here that matters? If you are young leader, or a mentor, or someone trying to make a difference in this world, please, hear my plea! Do not spread yourself too thin. In a world where people have little to no weight/strength/courage to do right/authenticity, would it not be great if we could change that by not spreading ourselves too thin?

Food for thought: I am not perfect, but I aspire to not spread myself too thin. What would our world look like if the youth of the nation did the same?
