Hey Tim,
I know you will probably never get a chance to read this letter. I figured I would write it anyways in case I had the opportunity to give it to you. You do not know me, but chances are, had I lived in Florida, we would have been great friends growing up. My name is Brent Ferris. You have met me once upon enjoying a game of pick up football.
You and I are close to the same age. We graduated at the same time from high school, entered college the same year, graduated from college the same year (different Universities) and went on to go pro in something different the same year. You chose football and I chose Youth Ministry.
This letter is not to bestow a great deal of wisdom on you because I am not a wise man. This letter is simply to tell you that ever since I met you I have been a fan of yours. To be honest, I did not know much about you before moving to Denver. I did not realize the impact that you would have over so many people and the influence you would be for so many lives. Then I had the opportunity to meet you and play some football, and I was blown away with your charisma, humility and love for people. It would only take a second to see for anyone that meets you.
It was on that day I realized that though you are a professional football player (whom I am rooting for), you were also trying to figure out your way in the world just like me. For this I am grateful to have gotten a chance to know you, because that is what makes you more than a professional football player; it makes you a leader.
I hope that someday, our paths cross again and maybe there would be an opportunity to communicate about life, God, love, and/or passion; but above all else, I hope and pray that God keep you in his will and that you always, no matter the circumstances, fight to find God’s will in your world. I am sure that you would have been successful no matter what career you chose.
We may never meet, but I am going to be praying for you to maintain your humility as you lead others to know they man you are, and I will do my best to follow suit. Let your light shine before all men.
We will both lead many, and I pray that as we do, God helps us to maintain leadership that gives him the glory and honor forever.
In closing, I know this is a weird letter, but I continue to pray for you Tim as if I grew up with you. I pray that you lead well and that God gives you the wisdom to know what is right and the courage to do what is right in every circumstance you find yourself in. In case we never meet again, I thought I would try to encourage you as best I could.
Keep up the good fight Tim, I am pulling for you,
Brenton J Ferris
