I heard this story once upon a time. It was actually of a man I knew. There was a day where he knew that he had to walk away from his great paying career due to ethical reasoning. This decision had not been easily made and certainly cost some rest here and there for my friend. He decided to walk away from the position and accounted his thoughts in the decision to a pastor I knew, in a letter. There was a phrase in there about jumping. It went a little something like this: I do not know the plans that God has for me, I do not know when or how I will be rewarded for this decision, but I will never forget the day in my life when God said jump, and I jumped.
WOW! This post is to focus on the art of making your move. Your move may not be as dramatic as leaving a 50k paying job. It may be something more subtle like talking to your friend about your weekend, and tying in the fact that you went to church. It does not matter what the move, how big or how small, the only thing that matters is when God says to jump, you jump. I want to explain in a little more detail how that should look. When we talk about a jump of this “magnitude” we are not talking about a jump that is of your own doing. A lot of times, a jump seems to be more of a scoot. This does not matter to God. What matters to him is when he says jump, you jump as high as you can and as hard as you can, and if that translates into a scoot, do not have fear! God can handle the rest.
The art of making your move can be pretty difficult to establish, so I would suggest three things. First, listen. If God is saying jump, you better be able to hear him. Second, do not look down. Do not sit there wondering if you will hit water, or something harder, let God land you where you are to land. Last, jump as high as you can. If you are going to jump, make it big. There is an old phrase I love when people say: “Go big, or go home”. Is it not amazing that if you go big, God will place you right where you need to be? I am not saying it is true. I am saying the Bible says it is true. God will never leave you, nor will he forsake you. He knows the plans he has for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. If God says jump… jump!

Food for thought: Where is God asking you to jump in your world? What are you doing about it?
