Relient K sang these words in their song “Getting into You”:
“I kind of view you as a son”
And for one second our eyes met
And I met that with the question
“Do you know what you are getting yourself into?”
Does Jesus know what he’s getting into with me? I asked myself this question instantaneously as I heard this line. Sometimes I seriously wonder why God would want to take the time with me. I doubt all of the time. I am frequently scared out of my mind. There are times I do not feel like I will ever succeed with what I am called to do. Then I hear these words and even though Relient K is saying them, I have to believe that God would throw these right back at me. The rest of the song goes into how I am getting into You (Jesus), because you are essential to survive. I am getting into you because you got to me.
I am still speechless as to why the God of the universe, the God who created EVERYTHING and EVERYONE would want me to be his love. I am not too proud to say that I deserve something like that in the least bit, but the lyrics of the song makes it clear, and the end of the song rips me apart. It makes clarity in an unclear question. “I love you, and that’s what you are getting yourself into.” As soon as I doubt, and question, and misunderstand how God would want me, this word comes up; LOVE. God loves. He’s loves so much he held nothing back. He loves so hard he gave HIS Son, to die on THIS earth, for MY sins to be undone, so that WE could have a relationship.
So I beg to ask the question of your thinking paradigm: What if God really is the Father? What if he really does love you more than He can bear it? I am not a father yet, but I can only imagine how protective and in love and proud of my son I would be regardless of all the mistakes and faults they may make the other day. I am not saying God would overlook those, I am just begging the question, what if God is the Father. What if he viewed us as his son? What if he loved you so much He sent his son to die on the Cross for you.

Food for thought: Just listen to the song, and hear the lyrics.
