Do you ever have those days where there is simply nothing to say?
I do. I have those days here and there. It is not that you are not thinking or that there is absolutely nothing going on in your brain, but you are just still. It is just one of those things. It’s probably at this moment that you have heard someone say; “oh, well this is where the verse be still and know that I am God comes into play huh?”. But is it that easy?
I beg you, please do not misread me, this concept is taken from Psalm 46:10. David is crying out to God and praising Him for being his strength and refuge. David writes about how God brings war to cease, He breaks bows and shatters spears, He burns shields with fire. He says, “Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted in the Nations, I will be exalted in the earth. This is not exactly a phrase surrounded by tranquility and silence. David writes about war. In the midst of war, God says: Be still, and know that I am God. Wow!
To a guy like me, its simple, the world is going to attack and try to get me to bend and fold. But God is my refuge and my strength, he makes wars and violence cease, he says “Be still and know that I am God.”
Today is that day for me, I challenge you to take a day in the near future to understand that sometimes, tranquility and serenity are not the moments we find God, sometimes its in the chaos and confusion that He is evident.
William Earnest Henley wrote in his poem Invictus these lines
I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.
I am going to set sail toward God, and try, to be still and know that He is God.
